Role of the Timing Controller (T-CON)

The Timing Controller (T-CON) board sits hidden behind the plastic chin cover at the bottom of your MacBook screen. Its purpose is to translate high-speed eDP serial video data from the Apple Silicon GPU into parallel pixel voltage signals for column and row driver ICs (Chip-on-Film).

Symptoms of a Failing T-CON

  • Screen turns on with vertical colored lines (pink, green, purple bars).
  • Display is black when cold, but starts displaying fuzzy gray imagery before eventually stabilizing when warm.
  • Image ghosting or slow pixel response time.

Keep the T-CON operational using the DisplayGuard background daemon.
