The 15-inch Form Factor & T-CON Dispersion

The 15.3-inch MacBook Air (A2941, Board 820-02841) introduced a much larger display panel while maintaining a fanless, ultra-thin 11.5mm aluminum chassis.

The larger glass panel requires higher drive current across its columns and rows. When the laptop runs demanding tasks on battery power, voltage droops on the 3.3V LCD rail can cause the T-CON timing controller to enter a fault-lock state, shutting down the panel until a full power cycle.

Diagnostic Recovery Steps

  1. Connect original 35W Dual USB-C or 70W fast charger.
  2. Force restart: Hold Touch ID button for 10 seconds, release for 5 seconds, press once.
  3. If internal screen remains black, plug an external monitor and run the DisplayGuard 1-line installer.
