Turning a Broken MacBook into a Desktop Powerhouse

An Apple Silicon MacBook Air or Pro with a broken internal screen still contains a world-class CPU, GPU, neural engine, battery, keyboard, and trackpad.

Instead of paying $800 to repair the screen, you can use it in Clamshell Mode:

  1. Connect an external monitor via USB-C or HDMI.
  2. Connect a power adapter and an external mouse/keyboard.
  3. Close the laptop lid. macOS automatically routes full GPU acceleration to the external monitor.

Install DisplayGuard to ensure headless display keepalives prevent sleep dropouts.
